Why TurnPro Sports?

TurnPro Sports was built out of a passion to deliver elite-level sports performance, fitness training, and sports medicine services to all who desire to live and feel their best in both life and sport.  Our team drew on our knowledge and experience of over 20 years, working with some of the best athletes in the world, to develop our proven S.M.A.R.T. PRO Training System.  Our system allows us to design programs that deliver individualized game plans centered on personal goals and sport-specific demands.

The S.M.A.R.T. Pro Training System

Athletes who are driven to be their best, seek answers to their limitations.  Our role is to help those athletes identify and minimize those limitations to maximize their fullest potential.  This is the process of mastery an athlete commits to when they TurnPro.  To assist in this process, we created the S.M.A.R.T. PRO Training System to identify the key elements an athlete needs to perform at their best while minimizing the risk of injury. 

S = Stability:  Total body control through optimum utilization of strength, motor coordination, and balance

M = Mobility:  Freedom and ease of movement by which a joint progresses efficiently through its available range of motion

A = Agility:  Ultimate integration of speed, power, strength, balance, coordination, and reaction time

R = Recovery:  Adequate sleep, as well as other proven strategies to maximize the body’s overall repair of structural and psychological stresses from training and life

T = Total Nutrition:  Adequate hydration and consistent, high quality food sources such as vegetables and fruits in a variety of colors, whole grains, healthy fats and proteins, to meet individualized daily caloric needs

Markus Turner and Chris Pearson were first introduced while working for the Oakland Raiders in 1999. Markus was an athletic training intern and Chris was in his 1st year as the team’s assistant strength and conditioning coach. Upon completion of Markus’ internship, he and Chris kept in contact, grew to be close friends, and over the years considered the idea of starting their own company.

Their vision was to create a company that combined both their areas of focus, sports medicine and performance training. They foresaw a company where youth athletes and fitness-minded individuals could be trained from a pro-perspective, maximizing their performance, while minimizing injuries.

TurnPro Sports was officially launched in February of 2012. Markus and Chris take great pride in their company and make it their focus to create an atmosphere of professionalism. By doing so, they ensure that each individual they work with experiences the highest quality training designed to meet their specific goals.

Markus Turner

Markus Turner has been recognized as a professional in the field of sports medicine for over 20 years. He is a Board-Certified Athletic Trainer (ATC) and holds additional certifications as a Performance Enhancement Specialist (PES), Corrective Exercise Specialist (CES), and Fascial Stretch Therapist (FST). He has had the unique pleasure of working with prominent athletes from organizations such as the Oakland Raiders, Minnesota Twins, and EXOS Human Performance (formally Athletes Performance).

Markus received his Bachelors degree in Biology from Tuskegee University in 1997. He then went on to pursue his graduate degree from the United States Sports Academy, earning a Masters in Sports Medicine with an emphasis in Exercise Physiology. In 2010, through EXOS, Markus completed a Performance Mentorship, where he enhanced his knowledge in functional movement skills, strength and power development, energy system development and total body recovery applications. He also became certified in the use of the Functional Movement Screen (FMS).

Markus’ philosophy in life stems from the Japanese word, “Kaizen” which simply means “continuous improvement.” He lives this out through reading regularly as well as attending various educational events in an effort to stay current in this ever-changing industry. Markus and his wife Sarah enjoy staying active and spending time with their 5 sons.

Christopher Pearson

Christopher Pearson has been recognized as a professional in the field of performance training for over 20 years. Pearson is a member of the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) and is a Board-Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS).

He began his career at California State University, Dominguez Hills, 1993-1997, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in Athletic Training. In 1996, Pearson had the fortunate opportunity to work with the Oakland Raiders as a strength and conditioning intern. Post graduation, Pearson accepted the position of Fitness Specialist at the Veterans Sports Complex in Los Angeles. In 1999 the Oakland Raiders called again and this time Pearson was hired on full-time to work with Oakland Raiders as the assistant strength and conditioning coach. He held this position until January of 2012. Concurrently, he also held the position of Oakland Raiders assistant team chaplain during his tenure as well. During the span of his 13 years with the team, Pearson shared in the successes of three AFC Western Championship Teams 2000-2002 and a Super Bowl Team in 2002.

Always an avid learner, Pearson returned to school and earned a Masters of Science in Sports Humanities from California State University East Bay, in the spring of 2007. He then went on to earn his Doctorate in the field of Theology in 2013. Pearson’s passion for sports and fitness has propelled his success as a bodybuilding and powerlifting champion.
